Organisation and Management

Fontys University of Applied Sciences is one of the largest institutions for higher education in The Netherlands. Fontys is a 'learning community' where students and employees are able to grow in the acquisition of knowledge, competences and experience. Fontys provides high-quality higher vocational education for Bachelor and Master degree education, and provides outstanding doctoral education. In addition, practice-based scientific research is undertaken, in the service of professional development and innovation.

The courses and services from Fontys University of Applied Sciences are provided within 35 separate schools (with their own boards of management). The overall management of Fontys University of Applied Sciences lies with the Executive Board. Both the Executive Board and the individual schools call upon the Fontys Support Units for a range of services, including ITC services, Student facilities, Administration and Domestic facilities.

Applied research

At Fontys, in addition to the provision of education and service, research is part of the university’s primary processes; in the courses of study (bachelor and master level), in associate professorships, in knowledge circles, and in PhD programmes. Fontys aims to be the connecting link between professional areas and knowledge areas. As an institute of knowledge, Fontys also aims to contribute to development and innovation in professional practice via both the creation of knowledge and the circulation of knowledge. Thereby, research demands hail directly from companies and organisations operating in the region.
